Dhanush plays the role of a simple middle class boy. He lacks the skills and qualifications to get a decent job. While all his friends settle down in life, he continues to struggle. His father is a teacher who always reprimands him for his lack of responsibility. He has two close friends who support him. His life takes a drastic change when he falls in love with Nayantara. But Nayantara is a career-minded girl, who refuses his love as she is already engaged to be married. How the lives of both the lead characters change and whether they come together forms the rest of the plot.
