Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Dev D is a modern version of the Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s famous character Devdas. The protagonist Devdas (Abhay Deol) is the son of a zamindar and falls in love with Paro (Mahi Gill). The differences in their caste and status makes it impossible for Devdas to marry her, leading to her marriage to a widower, and his departure to Calcutta. Devdas then tries to find love in drugs, alcohol and a prostitute.
